Springfield's Favorite Family Makes Its Debut in Rocket League: But It's Not the Vehicle You're Dreaming Of

We already knew that The Simpsons was collaborating with Fortnite, but that's not the only place where enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the universe of Springfield. The beloved show is coming over to the popular soccer-driving hybrid, bringing along an in-game car skin that will also be usable in the Fortnite universe. That said, if gamers will truly desire to use it is another question, as fans have their hearts set on just one Springfield vehicle everyone is itching to drive, and this isn't it.

What Fans Really Want

While many gamers would absolutely enjoy to face off behind the wheel of Homer's custom creation—the famously flawed automobile Homer designed personally in the classic installment "the one where he meets Herb"—that's not what's being offered. Not even receiving the massive SUV, the enormous truck featured in season 10. Rather, players are getting the Simpsons' everyday beat-up sedan, which they've been driving since 1989. Though this specific vehicle has accumulated plenty of miles, it remains an iconic symbol of the show. And for players who pay attention to the game's car hitboxes, the Simpson family car shares the identical collision model as the Dominus body type.

Additional Themed Cosmetics

But that's not the sole cosmetic from the show arriving in Rocket League. This limited-time event will also include a set of challenges to earn additional goodies, all of which are inspired by the show. As detailed in a press release, the challenges will require players to "achieve a certain number of centers and clears as there are The Simpsons years on air, gather boost canisters as if your GPS is set to the Simpson house, and travel a specific distance sufficient for acquiring the perfect donuts!"

Although the complete list of earnable items isn't yet disclosed, here is what's been announced so far:

  • Blinky topper
  • Homer's Hedges player banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 XP per challenge

If the key art is a reliable guide, it appears fans will also receive wheels with a TV displaying The Simpsons' opening credits, Kang and Kodos topper, a sprinkled donut boost trail, and rocket boosts inspired by burning tires and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Launch Dates and Crossover Details

The Rocket League collaboration coincides with the major Simpsons takeover of Fortnite's island, which brings a brand-new playable area of the fictional town, in addition to a month-long seasonal progression system. The Rocket League x The Simpsons event launches on November 1st and concludes on Nov. 17.
