Palestinian Hamas and Israeli officials commence third-party negotiations in the Egyptian city on Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Conflict zone News Agency
Israel has been carrying out combat operations in Gaza City for weeks.

Mediated discussions aimed at reaching a comprehensive deal on a Trump administration initiative to end the war in Gaza have begun in the Red Sea resort of the Egyptian resort town.

Middle Eastern and regional officials have indicated that the sessions are centered around "establishing the groundwork" for a possible exchange that would involve the freeing of all detained individuals in exchange for a number of incarcerated individuals.

The group stated it agrees to the peace plan proposals partially, but has not responded to several key demands - including its military demobilization and future role in Gaza.

The government official said on Saturday that he anticipated declaring the liberation of captives "soon"

Conflict Timeline

The negotiations, which will feature Egyptian and Qatari officials holding shuttle meetings with teams from both the conflicting parties in isolation, take place on the eve of the two-year mark of the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on the initial attack date, in which about 1,200 people were fatally wounded and 251 others were taken hostage.

The defense forces initiated operations in Gaza in retaliation. From that point, 67,160 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza, based on data from the region's Hamas-run health ministry.

Initiative Components

The comprehensive proposal, which has been agreed upon by the Trump administration and the Netanyahu government, suggests an quick halt to fighting and the release of 48 detained individuals, only 20 of whom are considered alive, in compensation of numerous of detained Gazans.

The proposal specifies that once both sides agree to the initiative "complete assistance will be quickly dispatched into the Gaza Strip"

It also declares that the militant group would have no involvement in governing Gaza, and it permits an independent Palestinian nation.

Recent Developments

Recently, officials replied to the plan in a statement, in which the group approved "to free all detainees, both living and dead, following the exchange formula outlined in the US initiative" - if the necessary circumstances for the exchanges are satisfied.

It failed to address or approve Trump's 20-point plan but said it "renews its agreement to hand over the governance of the Palestinian territory to a Palestinian body of professionals, established through Palestinian national consensus and regional endorsement"

The announcement omitted reference of one of the crucial requirements of the initiative – that the organization agree to its weapons surrender and to ceasing political participation in the administration of Gaza.

Regional Reactions

Many Palestinians described the organization's answer to the ceasefire proposal as surprising, after an extended period of indications that the organization was preparing to reject or at least significantly qualify its approval of Trump's peace plan proposal.

Conversely, the militant group refrained from including its traditional "red lines" in the official statement, a action many view as a sign of outside forces.

International and regional representatives have welcomed the proposal. The governing body, which governs areas of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, has described the American initiatives as "genuine and committed"

Iran - which has been one of the organization's key backers for decades - has also recently indicated its support for the American initiative.

Present Conditions

Military strikes persisted in various locations of the conflict zone on the beginning of the week prior to the talks beginning.

Israeli forces is carrying out an offensive in the metropolitan region, which it has declared is aimed at obtaining the release of the outstanding captives.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the territory's Hamas-run civil defence, indicated that "assistance vehicles have been allowed into Gaza City since the military operations started recently"

"Victims remain we cannot access from locations under defense force authority" he said.

Numerous individuals of the metropolitan area have been required to leave after the armed services required departures to a designated "humanitarian area" in the south, but hundreds of thousands more are considered to have persisted.

The military official has admonished that those who persist during the combat campaign would be "terrorists and supporters of terror"

In the previous day, 21 residents have been fatally injured in Gaza and a another 96 injured, the Hamas-run health ministry said in its most recent report.

International journalists have been prohibited by Israel from visiting the Gaza Strip without supervision since the start of the hostilities, making confirming reports from the conflicting groups difficult.
