First Test, the Gaddafi Stadium (the fourth day)
The home side 378 (Imam 93, Salman Agha 93; Senuran Muthusamy 6-117) & 167 (Babar 42; the spinner 5-57)
South Africa 269 (Tony de Zorzi 104; Noman 6-112) & 183 (Brevis 54; Shaheen 4-33, Noman 4-79)
The hosts secured a 93-run victory
The national team halted the reigning champions the Proteas' winning streak by completing a 93-run victory in an exciting and competitive first Test in Lahore.
South Africa, who had a 10-match unbeaten run in the longest format culminated in victory over Australia in the WTC final in the month of June, were bowled out for 183 chasing 277.
Having resumed on 51 for two, they lost century-maker Tony de Zorzi lbw to left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi to the third delivery of the day to shift the finely-poised chase in Pakistan's favor.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali, who secured 10-191 in the match, dismissed Tristan Stubbs for two and clean bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a run-a-ball 54.
Off-spinner Sajid also capitalized on significant spin to end opener Rickelton's stay - he faced 145 deliveries for 45 runs - and Afridi came back in the post-lunch session to dismiss the tail with a fine display of reverse swing.
He trapped Verreynne lbw for nineteen and bowled Prenelan Subrayen and Kagiso Rabada to secure the victory.
It was both sides' first match of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle and propels the hosts directly into second place after leaders Australia.
The win was built around contributions of ninety-three by opening batsman Imam and, importantly, number seven Agha which boosted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
After that slow bowlers Noman and Sajid Khan utilized favourable home conditions, as they did in their series victory over the English team last year, to sustain their lead.
The next and last match starts on 20 October.
